About this role

We are seeking a highly motivated technical specialist

The Senior Distributed Renewable Energy Specialist will provide indepth technical expertise in renewable energy systems, power sector planning, and energy market development. The specialist will play a key role in ensuring technical rigor across AMPERES activities, including feasibility studies, project design, technical assessments, and representation in technical forums.

In particular, the role will lead feasibility study analyses of distributed renewable energy solutions and develop a forward-looking business agenda to guide AMPERES’ work on the design, deployment, and scaling of innovative energy transition models across the Mekong region.

This role will work closely with Alluvium Group’s Technical Lead, Regional Manager and Energy Program Manager.

What you will be doing in this role

  • Support the Technical Lead in developing a strategy for AMPERES’ energy program, while helping to establish and maintain trusted relationships with clients, partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Lead or contribute to technical assessments and feasibility studies for renewable energy and energy transition projects (e.g., solar, wind, storage, hybrid systems, community RE models).
  • Provide expert input on power system planning, renewable integration, grid stability, and energy efficiency
  • Review and translate technical documents into accessible insights for the program team and partners.
  • Support proposal development and business development efforts, including drafting technical sections, budgets, methodologies, and client engagement for donor-funded and commercial projects.
  • Represent AMPERES in technical working groups, conferences, and policy dialogues, strengthening the organization’s profile and credibility.
  • Collaborate with academic, government, and private sector partners to ensure practical, innovative, and scalable solutions.
  • Mentor junior staff and associates to build internal technical capacity.
 
Skills and Experience
  • Advanced Degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Power System or related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of professional experience in renewable energy, power sector planning, or energy transition projects.
  • Proven track record in conducting feasibility studies, designing energy systems, and providing technical advisory services.
  • Proven experience mentoring staff and guiding team growth.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in at least one, but preferably more, of the Lower Mekong countries (Vietnam, Thailand, Lao PDR, or Cambodia), including familiarity with their power sector regulatory framework, and energy market reforms; broader regional or international experience is an advantage.
  • Experience using HOMER or other microgrid optimisation software is essential.
  • Experience in GIS analysis and computer programming is desirable.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multi-cultural environments and as a collaborative team player.
